At 5.42pm a small fire on the Old Deniliquin Rd was called in, followed by reports of a fire on Old Barmah Rd at 5.45pm.
The Moama RFS contained the fire on Old Deniliquin Rd before leaving one truck at the site to completely black out the fire while the remaining trucks headed to the second fire.
At Old Barmah Rd, a fire had started further out from the road; however, the wind was blowing it towards the road, making it easier to stop it from spreading.
Alongside the Moama RFS, the Barmah CFA and the Womboota RFS also attended the scene to help stop the fire.
By 6.30pm, the fire was under control, with fire services leaving the scene at about 9.30pm.
NSW RFS Mid-Murray Fire Zone District Co-ordinator Gerard James said it was vital that people remained vigilant during the fire season, especially during the holidays.
“I think the big one going into new year's is just for revellers and campers to play it safe, especially the campers with campfires — abide by the rules” he said.
“(For) private property, if you do have a campfire going, please extinguish it with water and do not just bury them.
“We are continuously being called to jobs where people have kicked a bit of dirt over the fire and thought, ‘they'll be right’; they've gone home and a couple of days later it's gotten free and taken off again.”
