The league held a special charity round to finish off the calendar year, with all teams taking to the greens at Strathfieldsaye Bowls Club on Sunday, December 14.
Proceeds from the day were donated to cancer wards in Echuca, Bendigo and Maryborough.
It wasn’t the most convincing win of Moama’s year but the Steamers still maintained control throughout its contest with Bendigo East, winning 16-81 to 2-66.
The dominant rink for Moama was the one led by skip Cameron Keenan.
His squad of Jacob Brighton, Barry Brennan and Cassandra Millerick won 28-14, a key factor for the Steamers on the final scorecard.
Skip Paul Girdler also picked up a win for the locals, 21-18 over Bendigo East’s Connor Fry, while Matt Robertson won 18-16 over Robert Clough.
East skip Martin Lord did muster some joy for his beaten side, scoring an 18-14 rink win over Kevin Anderson.
With four rounds to go when action resumes on January 17, Moama is well on its way to securing the minor premiership, leading the competition by 34 points.
Seventh-placed Strathfieldsaye, a side with only one win this year, won’t be expected to pose much of a threat to the leader when it visits Moama Bowling Club in the new year.
