'They've shown their dislike': Heeney on Curnow reunion

Heeney is already anticipating a hostile reception from travelling Carlton fans still feeling the sting of the dual Coleman medallist's off-season departure.

On-field, gun Carlton defender Jacob Weitering is set to make a beeline to Curnow - bar a last-minute speed bump in the All-Australian's recovery from a fractured rib.

"I know the Carlton fans, they've shown their dislike for him," Heeney said on Tuesday.

"The Swannies fans, they absolutely love him and hopefully he can turn it on at the SCG because it's one of the best places to play footy.

"When it's pumping, it's unbelievable - gets me buzzing already.

"I need to not waste any energy on the excitement of Thursday night."

A fit-again Curnow - who has long been dogged by knee injuries - impressed in his first outing since joining Sydney, kicking four goals in a scratch match against the Western Bulldogs.

"I don't want to put any pressure on him, but like a bit of a 'Buddy' (Lance Franklin) presence," Heeney said.

"If we can allow him to have fun out there and we look after him, then goals will come.

"The pressure isn't on him kicking goals, it's him to play 25 games this year."

But Curnow's reunion is just one storyline generating hype for the season opener.

Heeney will also face off against former teammates, promising extra attention for Carlton recruits Will Hayward and Ollie Florent.

Swans favourites Hayward and Florent were ruthlessly traded to the Blues in the club's bid to secure Curnow.

"Strictly business at the moment," Heeney said.

"There's no hard feelings there, they get it and they've moved on and in some ways, it was nice for them to start fresh.

"It was tough seeing them go, but it's going to be on this Thursday, and I can't wait.

"I look forward to moments where hopefully we can bump into each other, and you can have a wrestle and sort of muck around in that aspect.

"For some reason, it's always if you can put a bigger shot on your mate, you try and do it."
