The women and girls of Gannawarra Shire were treated to an early International Women’s Day celebration at The Glasshouse in Kerang on Thursday, March 5.
Gannawarra Shire councillor Lisa Farrant hosted the breakfast event and was delighted to welcome people from across the shire for what she described as “such an inclusive and inspiring occasion.”
The day gave local women and girls a chance to share their experiences in community leadership and business, creating a supportive and encouraging atmosphere.
Under the theme ‘Balance the Scales’, women were encouraged to take inspiration from the guest speakers’ resilience in their own battles.
“(The theme) highlights the urgent need for fair, inclusive and accessible justice for every woman and girl,” Cr Farrant said.
More than 80 people attended the Gannawarra's International Women's Day Breakfast.

Over a free coffee and breakfast, attendees heard from Fiit Space’s Belinda Batchelor, Murray Mind and Wellness’s Rianna Matuch and 16-year-old student cadet and peacekeeper Lucy Pilgri, as they shared their stories of community leadership.
“Attendees were inspired by the ways Belinda, Rianna and Lucy encourage others to overcome barriers, prioritise self-care and continue striving towards their goals,” Cr Farrant said.
International Women's Day began in 1911 and continues to honour women’s achievements across society, economics, culture and politics, while advocating for ongoing progress.
Cr Farrant acknowledged that despite significant progress in “balancing the scales”, women still faced serious barriers, including domestic violence, unequal pay and limited representation in leadership positions.
However, IWD in Gannawarra highlighted that while women continued to overcome these challenges, they were supported by a community of others on the same journey.
