The funds bolster junior sports and youth organisations in the district by reducing barriers to access, through helping local clubs purchase uniforms, equipment and other items.
“The idea is to assist and encourage sport in the community,” a Seymour Rotary spokesperson said.
“I think it’s a really positive way of supporting our youth — if they can get into sport at a young age, it will encourage a healthy life for them in the future.”
The local Rotary Club has a strong history of supporting a number of opportunities for youth in the community, with boosting involvement and acknowledgement of young people being one of its biggest commitments.
Anything purchased with the $500 grants will enhance and encourage current and future participation of local young people, and grant recipients are encouraged to use local business where possible.
“Ongoing fundraising events that we run throughout the year make these grants possible,” the Rotary spokesperson said.
“We always put the dollars back into the community wherever we can.”
