While it was a fun day outside the classroom, it was also a chance to take part in hands-on environmental conservation.
As they reeled in the invasive species, students learnt about the importance of biodiversity protection.
Students also did their part for Clean Up Australia Day by cleaning up along the river’s edge while they waited for a catch.
Alana Morehu, George Burmeister, Jack Johnstone and Phoebe Johnstone were the major winners of the competition. Photo: Supplied.
Jack Johnstone caught the biggest fish on the day, bringing in a 72cm carp, while Phoebe Johnstone won a prize for the biggest catch among the girls, with a 31cm carp.
George Burmeister was awarded for catching the first carp of the day, and Alana Morehu was also among the winners for reeling in the first carp for Eagle House.
On the whole, students enjoyed the opportunity to spend time outside.
The day brought together environmental stewardship, teamwork and outdoor learning, and the students’ enthusiasm was a standout.
