Runners, joggers and walkers laced up their shoes on Saturday, March 28, to celebrate the long-awaited launch of Kyabram’s Breen Avenue Walking Track parkrun.
The event marked the launch of the free, weekly 5km event, which saw an impressive turnout of 110 participants and 15 volunteers.
Designed for all ages and abilities, parkrun offers the opportunity for community members to come together and get active outdoors at their own pace, with no time limits.
For co-event directors Sarah Langley and Larissa Sherman, Saturday’s success was four years in the making, working alongside parkrun headquarters to bring the global event to Kyabram.
With the support of local parkrun event ambassador Rod Cairns, the team sought approval for different locations around town, but found success when the Allan St to Cooma Rd section of the Breen Avenue Walking Track opened.
Now a permanent fixture on the local calendar, the Breen Avenue Walking Track parkrun will take place every Saturday at 8am and is free for all participants wanting to run, jog, walk, volunteer or spectate.
