The weather forecast for Wednesday was not at all good but fortunately turned out to be wrong for this area, with the third and final round of Rich River’s women's championships completed in fine form.
Rosalie Drill had a three-round scratch total of 86, 80, 87 for 253 to tie with past winner Karen Fitzgerald (85, 83, 85 — 253).
But it was a one-hole play-off which resulted in Drill becoming the 2021 Women's Open Champion.
Drill was presented with the trophy by Rich River Golf Club chief executive Shane Gloury and in her acceptance speech said COVID-19 restrictions had actually been good for her game as she had not been able to work as usual and thus played a lot of golf.
An A-grade nett score of 211 over the three rounds won Liz Easther the Lee Seargeant trophy.
Bronze One division champion was Lesley Gray with scratch scores of 85, 93, 88 — 276, who took out the title by three shots ahead of talented junior Rhylee Chapman (95, 91, 93 — 279).
Chapman will be competing in the play-off for the Junior Championship this week.
Gray also took out the Bronze One nett win with 207 from Deb Bawden on 212.
Bronze Two champion was Rita Freestone (104, 98, 99 — 301) ahead of Ingrid Cockroft (103, 96, 105 — 304).
Nett winner after the three rounds was Helen Henderson (207), tied with Julie Rowbottom in second.
Rowbottom, who was a graduate of the 2020 Rich River Chip and Sip program, took out the Veterans’ trophy which is calculated on the best two nett scores out of the three championship rounds.
Rowbottom reversed the three-round placing with nett 129 from Helen Henderson on 135.
Included in the final round of the championships was the play-off for the Medal of Medallists title, contested by the year's monthly medal winners (and countbacks).
The Medal of Medallists winner for 2021 was Judy Cook with 64 nett from Lynne Tucker on 67.
