Division two lost to Moama by 20 shots with the only winning rink the very consistent Wilma Curnow rink of John Brown, June Clifford and Norma Hall with a three-shot victory.

Club champion Steve Cunnington travelled to Bendigo East on Sunday to contest the champion of champions semi-final.
He drew South Bendigo champion Brad Holland in his semi-final and after a see-sawing affair managed get home by the barest of margins, 25-24 — a tremendous effort.
Cunnington then faced Bendigo’s Andrew Brown in the final.
In another tense encounter where the scores were even most of the way, Cunnington went down 22-25. Commiserations, Steve, but you should be extremely proud of your effort both from a personal perspective and the way you represented the Echuca Bowls Club.
On Sunday, the club held the Echuca Racing Club-sponsored mixed medley pairs with 28 teams competing.
Winners were Matt Brighton and Robyn Tooley from John Blair and Ann Williams, with third place going to Dennis Compton and Louisa Dean.

The women had a good roll-up for their weekly social bowls on Tuesday, with the cream rising to the top in the game of triples. The winning trio comprised the in-form Mary Thomas, Denise Gilmore and Phyllis MacFarlane (s) in a memorable performance by all bowlers.
On Tuesday evening a smaller field competed in the sports/barefoot bowls. The winner was the father-and-son combination of Ian Haines (s) and Kiefer Haines on two wins and +17 shots ahead of Steve Pavone and Jack Morris (s) with two wins +12 and Kim Ray and Peter Eade (s) with +9.
In the Campaspe Area pennant competition, the women lost their match against Tongala 50-83. (Pauline Humbert lost to C. Cardwell 18-33; Phyllis MacFarlane lost to. E. Hosking 18-25; Lois Chugg lost to J. Makepeace 14-25).
The weekend pennant resulted in a win for division three against Deniliquin 69-44, with all rinks up. (Graham Turner d .L Pattinson 18-17; Philip Cunnington d T. King 29-13; Leanne McInnes d G. Thomson 22-14). There were no results to hand in the division 4B game against Moama Green.
During the week, members travelled to district tournaments. The women played at Rich River with little success, other than Pauline Humbert winning a raffle prize.
Club president Ray Hanson, Russell Shawcross and Ken Main (s) competed in the two-bowl triples event at Stanhope and returned home with the winners’ trophies, plus a raffle prize for Hanson.
Several teams played in the 60-and-over competition held at Elmore on Wednesday. Neil Haines, John van den Bosch, Frank Chugg and Ian Johnson (s) came second and received a "chook". Another three-game winner was the Dave Thomas-skipped rink of John Alexander, John Fisher and Alan Kauffman only to come a close third and earn a "chicken wing".
The Friday evening barbecue and practice session was again well supported, with the lucky members’ draw jackpot being collected by John Fisher.
The club will be holding the popular Echuca Toyota Open Fours tournament on Sunday, March 20, starting at 9.30am. Contact Chris Stewart on 0439 834 207 (text only) or Russell Shawcross on 0428 862 468 for details.
On Sunday, the Bendigo-Campaspe-Goldfields State Champion of Champions final series was held at the Bendigo East Bowling Club, along with the final of the BCG Regional Women's State Singles event. Congratulations to Sandra Connolly (Moama) on defeating Susan Howes (Kangaroo Flat) 25-14 in a game where the actual scores did not indicate the closeness of the heads. Connolly was playing brilliant bowls, with Howes at times matching her opponent but unable to keep up the pressure.
In the women's state champion of champions, Cassandra Millerick (Moama) defeated Sharon Koch (Bendigo) in the semi-final 25-12 in a game of fluctuating fortunes before Millerick was able to break clear for a win. The other semi-final was played between Leah Whiffin and Sharon Vowles, with Whiffin winning the match 25-16. In the final, both Millerick and Whiffin displayed some memorable bowling as they traded ends. However, it was Millerick that appeared to be going from strength to strength as she applied immense pressure to take out the title 25-7.
The men's section of the BCG State Champion of Champions provided some exciting passages of brilliant bowling from all competitors.
In the semi-finals, Steve Cunnington (Echuca) was pitted against Brad Holland (South Bendigo), while Andrew Brown played Dean Carter (Eaglehawk). The Cunnington-Holland match kept the large crowd immersed as they traded ends with little difference on the scoreboard. Neither bowler could gain a decent break such was the closeness of the heads. Eventually the game panned out with the scores level at 24-all before Cunnington was able to gain that elusive shot to win 25-24.
The game between Brown and Carter was a mixture of fluctuating fortunes as Carter jumped out to lead 11-1 before Brown gradually found the green to reduce the lead and trail 11-18. Brown kept applying the pressure to finally win a finals berth, 25-21.
The final produced the final of all finals. Both Cunnington and Brown were demonstrating some classical bowls as they traded ends, with Cunnington relying on his immaculate draw bowling while Brown had a mixture of draw bowling and aggressive driving at the head with some outstanding results. On the very first end, Brown drove the head to kill the end after Cunnington had drawn two close bowls. This pattern continued as the match progressed, with little separating the bowlers. A major turnaround came late in the game with Cunnington leading 21-20 and Brown having drawn two brilliant bowls — a resting toucher and another close bowl. Cunnington, with his final bowl, played a yard-on shot to extricate the jack and place it back near his closest bowl. Brown was not to be outdone as he again drove aggressively to hit the jack. When the dust had settled, the jack had rebounded off the ditch several metres and Brown was left with three shots to be leading 23-21. On the very next end, Brown drove the jack into the ditch with his shot bowl close to the ditch. Cunnington sent a brilliant bowl to the edge of the ditch to make the scoreline 23-22. Brown eventually gained the two shots required to give him a 25-22 victory over Cunnington.
All bowlers will represent the Bendigo-Campaspe-Goldfields Region in the BowlsVic State Championships at Bendigo East Bowling Club in May.
