Cups kings strike again

Another cup win: Renowned country harness racing cup winners, Russell and Pam Hockham, with driver Jackie Baker, Echuca Harness Racing Club president Shane Gloury (left) and Peter Watkinson from Harness Racing Victoria.

Demon Delight added another piece of silverware to the extensive collection of legendary Victorian harness racing owners Russell and Pam Hockham.

With Jackie Baker in the driver’s seat Demon Delight was untroubled in winning its second successive cup, having only a week earlier saluted the judge at Charlton.

The Hockhams, from East Brighton, have a swag of harness racing country cups to their credit and the Moama Bowling Club Echuca Pacing Cup — a Group three event — was the latest on Friday evening.

A handful of years ago the couple won five country cups in a single season to underline their dominance in the sport.

The cup meeting was Shane Gloury’s first as president of the club, having been appointed to the position only five days earlier at the club’s annual general meeting.

Previous president Rob Height had been a long time executive to the club and Mr Gloury has a long history in the sport.

He was based at Tabcorp Park at Melton and worked with a number of harness racing clubs prior to taking up his current role as chief executive officer of Rich River Golf Club.
