But the results are plain to see, with the 15-year-old placing third in general classification at the recent Wirtgen Group Centrals Junior Tour in South Australia.
Competing in the under-17 category for the VMG Accounting Rave team, Hone held his own in a strong field across the four-stage tour along the Fleurieu Peninsula.
Stage one, a 44km road race, saw Hone finish fourth by a narrow margin, but the young cyclist had better luck in the 8km individual time trial, cracking the podium by finishing third.
Stage three saw a thrilling finish to the 50km road race, with Hone one of three riders finishing with the same time (1:25:11) in a dead-heat.
Across the line, however, Norwood’s Wil Holmes was judged the winner, with Hone grabbing another third.
Hone saved his best for last, taking out the fourth and final stage of the event.
He blitzed the 2.9km time trial up the famous Willunga Hill in a time of eight minutes and 21 seconds, ahead of a talented 22-rider field containing several junior national winners.
That result catapulted Hone to third in the general classification, rounding out a strong interstate trip for the talented Echuca cyclist, as well as a strong start to the cycling season.
Hone also nabbed a general classification podium at the opener of the Victorian Junior Racing Series in April, placing second in Bright.
The next Victorian Junior Road Series race is the Ararat Junior Tour, which takes place on May 7-8.
