Yarrawonga 61 defeated North Albury 38
An undermanned A grade team managed to pull off a very convincing 23 goal win against a young North Albury side on Saturday.
The first half was a tight tussle with only a few goals between the two sides. Yarrawonga would get to about a 5-goal lead but couldn’t consolidate it and to North’s credit they were still in the game at half time.
It was a treat to have Hannah Symes back in A grade again after starting the year in B grade. She combined beautifully in defence with the very consistent Laura Ryan.
The side remained unchanged heading into the 3rd quarter. Things began to click and finally Yarra were able to break away.
It was a confidence boosting performance from Maddie Allen in goals with her impressive shooting accuracy. With Bridge helping to direct play and being a huge presence in the goal circle, they are proving to become a formidable combination.
Laura Irvine consistently works so hard running through the centre each week and worked seamlessly with Tilly Kennedy in WA with beautiful feeding into the goalers.
This allowed Yarrawonga to power away in the second half to record a confident win.
B Grade
Yarrawonga 54 defeated North Albury 21.
B grade intended for a very confidential game, and the girls kept their heads high for the whole match. With different combinations out on court weekly, particularly in the defence end, it proved to be awesome with Jedda and Tess putting pressure on for North to not score.
With Jacqui’s voice down the court making the girls pressure stop North and receive held balls. Down the other end Ellie held strong to receive those high balls from Amity WA.
The Pigeon girls’ adaptability was commendable. Continuing on with the trend of the day, the girls showed great contribution to the team with Morgan coming up from under 17s playing GK showing great skills with getting great rebounds.
Overall, showing that they were up for an easy game, the Pigeons girls defeated North Albury, 54-21. Awards: Jedda Nolen and Tess Byrne.
C Grade
Yarrawonga 53 defeated North Albury 49.
Yet another close game of netball with the Pigeons coming away with a win.
The defensive end lead from the front, creating opportunities for the attacking end all day. Consistent efforts and direction of play from Clare Osullivan and Sarah Govan allowed Macey Drayton and Amy Barnes to fly through the air and create turnovers.
Zoe Jones, Suzy Levesque and Bre Bailey ran the mid-court, creating quick yet smooth transitions from defensive to attack, feeding the goalers with ease.
The attacking end battled with tight defense all game however this did not stop them.
Eliana Martin adapted in GS across 4 quarters providing stability in the ring for Delaynee Moon and Mardie Hamilton to run.
Best: Zoe Jones and Breanna Bailey.
