CFA District 20 acting operations manager Mick Lavery said permits to burn had recently been made available only for agricultural purposes and would continue until the Fire Danger Period stops.
‘‘Fires lit under these permits have very detailed restrictions that must be adhered to and members of the public may see smoke in their area caused by these fires,’’ he said.
‘‘We need to keep in mind during the break that due to lack of rain and very dry fuels, the risk of fire is still very high throughout these councils.’’
Mr Lavery said the CFA had a zero tolerance policy on fires lit without a permit during the fire danger period.
‘‘We would like to thank members of the public who have complied with conditions so far this season and wish everyone a safe Easter break,’’ he said.
