But on Saturday, she will say goodbye to her lovely long locks.
All in the name of cancer research.
The 23-year-old is taking part in the World’s Greatest Shave and is hoping for as much support as she can get, to help her reach her $2000 target.
‘‘I am taking part to show my support of all people battling all cancers,’’ she said.
‘‘I’ve had a lot of friends who have unfortunately gone through cancer and some have made it, some have not. To go through such a thing is really hard and I feel this is a way of understanding but also to show my support.’’
The former Bunnaloo Public School and Moama Anglican Grammar School student is in her fourth year at La Trobe University in Bendigo completing a Bachelor of Education (P-12. Hons).
‘‘To me, it’s only hair and it will grow back eventually, whether it will be in time for my graduation photos or not,’’ she said.
‘‘It could be that I end up in a photo with a nice short back and sides.
‘‘Shaving my head is just one way I feel I can support those around me suffering from cancer.’’
As of yesterday, her fundraising tally, which will go to the Leukaemia Foundation, had reached $1583.
‘‘I haven’t counted the money tins the RSL has been putting out and I’ve contacted a few schools to do some crazy hair days,’’ she said.
‘‘The money I raise will give families facing blood cancer the emotional and practical support they need and fund vital research to help more people survive blood cancers, while improving their quality of life.’’
Lauren will also be sending her hair to Variety, the Children’s Charity, for it to be made into a wig.
‘‘I’ve been growing my hair for so long and it’s just annoying. It’s out when it’s drying, in a plait if I sleep and up in a ponytail for most of the time so I’m not very adventurous, not very good at my hair,’’ she said.
‘‘I think on the night, I will start to get incredibly nervous but I’m excited for it.’’
The shave will be held at Moama RSL Club at 7.30pm Saturday.
