Deni, 12-0, have been the competition benchmark for the entire MNL season to date, and the scalp of the Rams would be an undeniably positive step forward for the Blues’ premiership aspirations.
Sitting in third, the Blues are coming off their first top six scalp — a 22-goal win over Mulwala — and with Moama giving the Rams a run for their money pre-bye, there may be a gap for Tongala to go one better than the Pies.
For the young Blues squad, however, their recent run of form boils down to simply enjoying their time on the court according to co-captain Grace Hammond.
“We’ve been playing netball like we have nothing to lose,” Hammond said.
“We’re having fun, and whether or not we’re playing a top or bottom side that’s really been one of our strengths.
“If we stick to what we do well as a team, namely our defensive pressure, then I definitely think it will be a great game for both sides.”
The bye came at a perfect time for Tongala as the club battled a bout of influenza, meaning the Blues will come in at full-strength for the game of the round.
Both sides boast an impressive attacking side, and the battle of the front-courts between Milly Brock and Deni’s Rhiannon Maxwell is set to be a highlight.
Brock said the clash would provide the perfect opportunity to test their credentials.
“It’s going to really show us where we’re at,” she said.
“We haven’t played them or Rumbalara yet so it’s going to really show us where we’re at as a team.”
Around the league, Echuca United will be looking to make it two wins on the spin for the first time this season when it faces Congupna, with the Eagles aiming to keep their season alive.
Tongala and Deni face off at Tongala Reserve this Saturday, July 9 from 1:30pm.
