It was the first time any sport has been played at the facility since its closure in August 2019, for the $1,5 million expansion and upgrade.
More than 150 community members, sport representatives and tradies attended, enjoying a free barbecue put on by Deniliquin Rotary.
There were badminton, Lifeball and gymnastics demonstrations, as well as a game of indoor cricket.
Deniliquin Sports Park Incorporated president Craig Druitt said it was great to see the stadium finished and already being enjoyed.
‘‘The opening was very well attended,” Mr Druitt said.
‘‘The partnership between groups, Edward River Council, tradies and individuals have allowed us to open this fantastic space to the community for their use.
‘‘We have a vision that the users of this facility will continue to grow and that we can now provide better sporting opportunities for those seeking it.’’
Mayor Norm Brennan and Mr Druitt cut the ribbon and officially opened the building respectively.
‘‘This project has been a long time in the making and I am so pleased to see it finished and looking as great as it does,’’ Cr Brennan said.
‘‘This has been about creating a safe and welcoming environment for people of all ages, better playing facilities and the ability to involve more user groups.
‘‘I now believe we can tick all of those boxes.’’
User groups of the stadium are expected to return in the coming weeks and new competitions and opportunities are soon to be announced.
