Thrive Wellness and Consulting’s One Million Metres for Marnie is raising money to help cover costs associated with her recovery to support her young family.
The Echuca mother suffered the stroke while at work and was transferred to hospital in Melbourne.
Thrive chief operations manager Decinta Tuohey said it was expected she would have a long recovery journey ahead.
“Marnie’s only recently woken up from her coma so we’re still waiting to hear more information about what her recovery might look like,” she said.
“Marnie is a treasured member of the team. She’s someone who dedicated her life to caring for others through her nursing career and as a diabetes educator, and now through her work with us.
“We really want to be able to give back to her and it’s our time now to care for her like she’s cared for others throughout her life.”
Ms Murray’s husband, Will, said he was incredibly thankful to the community for all the support so far.
He said it was difficult with his wife being in Melbourne and the hospital's COVID-19 restrictions meant he wouldn’t be able to visit her until she was well enough to leave – a timeframe currently unknown.
“I was able to get down and see a couple of times but because I’ve got to look after the kids and everything I’ve had to come back,” he said.
“We hope people can be aware of what stroke symptoms may look like. If it didn’t happen where it did with Marnie at Thrive . . . I firmly believe if it happened anywhere else there would have been a much more negative outcome.
“Thrive responded very quickly and the emergency department in Echuca were absolutely brilliant at the time and I can’t thank everyone who helped her enough.”
He said it was too early too tell what the outlook was for Ms Murray, who still requires further brain surgery.
The One Million Metres for Marnie will see Thrive’s staff, and any community members who wish to be involved, recording their activity, whether it be running, walking, swimming or cycling.
“It’s about coming together as a community to support a common cause and in a way connect with Marnie and other stroke survivors,” Ms Tuohey said.
A GoFundMe page was launched on the weekend and had already raised more than $14,000 in four days.
“We didn’t expect the result we’ve had so far, so we’re very appreciative to everyone who has contributed already,” Ms Tuohey said.
