Janarra Kerwin, 32, of Echuca, pleaded guilty in Echuca Magistrates’ Court to the charge of obtaining property by deception.
Prosecutor Leading Senior Constable Michael Petrov told the court Kerwin had made a number of transactions, totalling $2377.41, via someone else’s PayPal account on Wish.
The court heard the transactions were made between February 8 and March 19, 2020.
Leading Sen Constable Petrov said the victim became aware of the unusual transactions on March 19, and after alerting the Commonwealth Bank, was refunded the entire amount.
The court was told there was no connection between Kerwin and the victim prior to the offence.
Kerwin’s solicitor Greg Johnston said his client had advised that she was unaware of who the victim was or where the PayPal account details came from, as she was provided the details by someone she knew.
Mr Johnston said he had also been informed that Kerwin never received the items that she had ordered.
He said that since the offence, his client has not committed any further offences and has taken on part-time employment as a housekeeper.
The court was told Kerwin had one relevant prior conviction in 2017.
Magistrate Trieu Huynh fined Kerwin $500.
