Only a few weeks ago, Horace was saying how bad his game was but he beat Pete James for the B-grade prize.

Brendan Murphy must have thought it was monthly medal as he fired a sensational nett 63 in C-grade. Joe Burton claimed one of the last super-pins in August.

Fran Galvin was runner-up, with specialist lawn bowler and part-time golfer Noeline King in third place. Pam Heywood continues to show more golfing form than her husband by claiming the super-pin.

NSW Let's Play Ambrose

Thirty-eight pairs turned out on Sunday to play the NSW Let's Play Ambrose event in which the winning pairs, men, women and mixed, qualified for a regional final. If successful they progress to the state final at a later date.

The pair of Travis Lewis and Rick Robertson were the winners with a score of 63.75, and because there were more than 20 pairs in the men's competition it meant a second pair could qualify.

They will be joined in the regional final by Des Carey and George O'Sullivan with 65.5. The qualifying women's pairing was Tracey Burton and Melissa Freeman with 72.5 and the mixed pair was Frances and John Bennett with 65.75.

Oliver Bray and Jaxson McMinn were the daily competition winners with 63.75 on a countback to Lewis and Robertson, but were unable to go on in the NSW competition.

Daily results: Oliver Bray and Jaxson McMinn (63.75 c/b) 1. Travis Lewis and Rick Robertson (63.75) 2. Des Carey and George O'Sullivan (65.5) 3.

Tuesday, August 30:

Ralph Lynch had a brilliant nett 65 to win the stroke maximum score event on Tuesday. Mick Devlin, a relatively new golfer to Rich River, claimed his first win in B-grade and Peter Varcoe took the C-grade honours.

Wednesday, August 31:

The annual 36-hole Foursomes Championship attracted 28 pairs in what was great golfing weather.

This year's champions are Nacole Horneman and Sally Gough with a gross score of 183. They also had the best nett score of 147.

In second place with 192 were Dianne Stewart and Rosalie Drill, followed in third on 193 by former champions Maree Ciavarella and Chris Fleming with 193.

Shipp wins singles knockout

The final of the Bridie McKenzie Matchplay Singles Knockout was played on Monday at Rich River on the east course and the winner was Vicki Shipp, who defeated Nacole Horneman on the 19th hole.

Both players were ably supported by their caddies, Lorraine De Ravin and Dianne McMinn respectively.

After thunderstorms overnight it was touch and go as to whether the match could go ahead. However, the rain held off and in a very close match both players executed some great golf shots.

Vicki was playing off a handicap of 30 and Nacole 10, and the scores were neck and neck with only four squared holes in the whole round.

After a squared match at the 18th, play continued on the first hole (par five) and Vicki pulled off her best four shots of the day to be pin high on the green, while Nacole had to play her fourth shot from the trees and finished on the fringe with a long putt that fell short, leaving Vicki to take the hole and the match.
