The future of Tongala netball is in safe hands.

Under-17 captain Sienna Johnstone was recognised for a strong season after scooping a runner-up accolade in last Sunday’s Murray Football Netball League vote count at Moama Bowling Club.

Johnstone has been a key figure in the Blues’ unbeaten run in 2022, and was recognised for her hard work over a sustained period of time with an A-grade debut in the final round of the season.

Johnstone polled 32 votes to finish runner-up to Numurkah’s Nieve O’Dwyer.

The Tongala talent will get the chance to salute a perfect season with her side in this Saturday’s grand final against Moama.

Meanwhile, up-and-coming A-grade talent Gemma Brennan was nominated in a talented field for the Wendy Brooks Rising Star award.

Debuting against Cobram this season, Brennan made an instant impact in the Blues’ backcourt, notching her first best-on-court in just her second game.

Brennan has made waves early in her top-flight career, and together with Johnstone will form the nucleus of Tongala’s future A-grade core.
