During Term 3, Year 6 students at Echuca Primary School studied Fleur’s latest book, Seven Days, which was published earlier this year.
As part of their study, students made connections to the text, evidenced themes in the story and used annotation to analyse Fleur’s writing style.

To bring their reading to life, the school invited Fleur to visit the students and impart her experiences as a published author and, more recently, as a screenwriter.
As part of her presentation, Fleur discussed how having been a paramedic, a police officer and a parent influenced her writing.
She also described the writing process and her use of visualisation and compelling context to bring her ideas to life in print.
Students were most interested in her characters; in particular, those that were a direct reflection of people close to Fleur.

Seven Days was chosen by the school because Fleur’s writing style reflected many of the components the students had studied in the Reading and Writing Workshop this year.
Teacher Jo Trewhella said “its contemporary issues, rural setting and mystery made it all the more enjoyable to our Grade 6 readers’’.
Attention: The Year 6 students enjoy the talk from author Fleur Ferris.
