Primary school students put their best forward at the recent School Sport Victoria Track & Field Regional Championships in Bendigo on Monday, including several who set new records
208 Primary School’s Marlon Micalizzi set a new bar in the 11-and-under high jump, leaping 1.48m to collect the new Loddon-Mallee region record.
In the boys 12-13 800m run, St Mary’s Lynkoln Richardson set a new record with his first-place dash coming in a time of 2.26.48.
St Mary’s boys also set a new standard in the 4x100 12-13 relay, with the combined efforts of Nate Smith, Cody Reyne, Will Hatfield and Harry Sly setting a record-breaking time of 54.97.
Throughout the events, each school boasted a series of gold medal performances that delivered athletes a place at the State Athletics Championships.
Ivy Walker (208), Lochie Field (208) picked up first-place results in the girls 9-10 800m run and boys 9-10 high jump respectively, with Echuca Primary School also taking out a win in the under-11 boys 4x100m relay.
St Mary’s also enjoyed a gold deluge headlined by Chloe Ryan, who won a trio of events.
In the 1500m 9-10 boys track event, Sam Henson showcased his endurance with a swift first-place finish.
In the team events, the St Mary’s girls 9-10 4x100m relay were also victors.
Echuca East Primary School were gold medalists in a thrilling boys 9-10 4x100m relay, with the top four schools finishing within a second of each other.
