60-and-over
The Campaspe Valley and District 60- and-over bowls group held their Wednesday weekly bowls at Moama Bowls Club being the Len Vine Shield day, played in cool weather conditions and under cover.
Play has been unable to proceed through October because of the rain and flooding along the Campaspe River and surrounding districts.
Twenty-two teams, consisting of 88 bowlers, rolled up to compete for a chook in the competition return.
Two teams won three games then rolled off to within the metre stick.
One team had a bowl near the kitty, but the other teams were two better — they had three bowls within the metre.
Ron Payne’s team from Echuca had only one bowl within a metre of kitty.
They were Kevin McAsey (lead), John Hollowood (second), Steve Campion (third) under the guidance of Ron Payne as skipper.
The winners with three bowls within a metre of kitty was another team from Echuca, normally Eddie Smith’s team.
The team was Bruce Haines (lead), John Cowan (second), Robert Charman (third) and David Blackman from Rich River was their skipper.
Members of the Vine family were in attendance, including son Bruce Vine and daughter Joy Barnes with her husband Kevin.
The winners names will be engraved onto the Len Vine Shield when it is located.
Members of both teams each received a chook.
Next Wednesday, November 9, 60-and-over bowls is at Kyabram Bowls Club with an 11am start.
To enter phone Graeme Woodcock on 0458 546 462 or Les Grill on 0438 476 893.
Entries can also be taken on the sheet at the Kyabram Bowls Club.
Good bowling to all and may you all stay safe with these floods.
