Murray River Council was awarded funding last year under round 2 of the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund to undertake upgrades to zone 2 of Moama Recreation Reserve, which included the lighting project.
The zone 2 area covers the existing sporting fields used for soccer, little athletics, AFL and community events.
The works included the upgrading of the existing carpark, extension of the playing surface and the installation of new sports field lighting.
The new lights were recently installed by O'Brien Electrical and are designed to provide up to a 200 lux standard.
The new fittings also provide full LED lighting to reduce running costs, are designed to improve the lifespan of globes and have a variable LUX control for training or full matches.
The lights also have a smart control system that can allow monitoring and usage through a mobile APP for easier access by user groups.
Murray River Council Mayor, Cr Chris Bilkey said the lights and associated works are a welcome addition to the ever-developing sporting precinct.
“All these ongoing improvements will ensure the Moama Recreation Reserve remains an integral part of sport and community development in our local area for years to come,” he said
“The lighting to Jack Eddy Oval will go a long way to encourage increased usage of the area through better lighting at night for the user groups and allow Council to better rotate sports fields when required for maintenance purposes,” he said.
Upgrades to the formal car parking areas for Recreation Reserve users and Council customers at the new Murray River Council administration building are currently underway.
These works are expected to be completed in the coming month with some final landscaping to be completed.
