A $5000 Working in Dairy Communities (WIDC) Small Grants donation, along with contributions from Moira Arts and Culture and the Moira Shire recently propelled the project to $47,000 in funding.
Secretary Rob Morey was over the moon with how the cinema was tracking along.
“It is absolutely fantastic,” he said.
“The $5000 will go towards kitchen and appliances and the Moira Arts and Culture (grant) will go into wiring on the raised platform, screen and projector.
“Meanwhile, the Moira Shire funding will be put into fitting the cinema’s interior.
“The plasterers are 95 per cent done, and we are anticipating the painter to come in in the next week.”
With plumbing, tiling and carpeting to follow, Mr Morey predicted stage one of the build — the completion of the cinema — to be finished in the coming weeks.
“We are sort of on track with stage one, it should be finished around the end of July/ start of August,” he said.
“Stage two is important in achieving the $100,000 funding goal.
“Once carpeting is done, we will be able to start stage two, which hopefully will be around the end of August.”
While the funding’s progression has been steady, Mr Morey reminded the public not to let the fire die out on the contribution front.
“Of course, we are holding our breath throughout this COVID-19 disaster, but even if we aren’t able to use it once we have a completed cinema at least it will be ready to go,” he said.
“We urge people who, if they are thinking about donating, just to get into it.”
Those who donate more than $100 will be recognised on pavers in a ‘walk of fame’ in the entryway to the theatre — an initiative Mr Morey encouraged locals to get involved in.
