Wines polled 229 votes in Port Adelaide's best and fairest count on Thursday night, well ahead of midfielder Travis Boak (167) and defender Allir Allir (164).
Congratulating the star was coach Ken Hinkley, who joked they had "won the battle" for Ollie's and his family's fidelity to the club.
“Ollie is an incredible part of my own personal journey as coach; the first player we picked in my time at the club,” Hinkley said.
“It was a really challenging time, but to see Ollie come into our footy club and embrace it, and be the leader he has become, the Brownlow medallist, the best and fairest winner and the All Australian he is now, it's a great credit to him.”
Accepting the award, Wines spoke of his love for Port Adelaide Football Club, which had grown ever since he first crossed to Alberton Oval from Echuca as an 18-year-old.
“It's everything to me, I reflect on what Boaky spoke on before, and there are so many of us in the same boat,” Wines said.
“We get drafted from interstate and particularly five to 10 years ago when the club wasn't in the best state and not going in the right direction.
“And we think we are only going to be here for two years to all of a sudden we're introduced to this famous club and we embrace everything about it and we don't want to go anywhere.
“Now to win this award and be on the board with some of the guys I really respect and be the first Brownlow medalist of this great club is tremendous.”
Wines then thanked his family for all their support.
“To my family, as has been said, it's been difficult being interstate for the last couple years and being away from family, but all the support they've given us goes a long way,” Wines said.
“I know my parents and siblings will be watching on the live-stream.”
Individual recognition has come thick and fast for Wines this year.
But the midfielder insists the fire continues to burn for a premiership after Port was knocked out of consecutive preliminary finals in 2020 and 2021.
“The players, we do it tough together, we work hard over pre-season and ride the highs and lows together, so I've got no doubt this group is full of character and the fire burns among us, we will be back and at it next year,” Wines said.
