Coming up against a side hunting its first win in Heathcote, you could be forgiven for hopes being high.
With Oskar Smartt coming in for his senior debut, the opportunity for the Bombers to break their duck for the season was well and truly alive.
But it didn't last long.
Heathcote ran out of the blocks, kicking four first quarter goals on their home deck to put the Saints in control of the game.
Smartt would manage two in his debut, but found himself struggling with a lack of meaningful support, with just eight goals sailing through at Leitchville-Gunbower's end.
The Saints on the other hand managed to put through a dominant total of 21.15, easily claiming the win by 89 points.
The young Bombers are well aware of where they are at in terms of their development, and losses are inevitable at this point in time.
But it's hard to avoid that this will no doubt have an impact on the young side's confidence.
“It's pretty disappointing,” the coach Cam van Florestein said.
“We made a really good effort in the last quarter and we played a much better game last week, but in the second and third quarters in particular we went away from what has worked for us.
“It's that kind of thing we focus on, getting those elements right and sticking to what we are able to do to play good football.”
