Rich River

Thursday, June 10

Only 65 brave souls ventured out in cold and windy conditions, with Paul Elliott not bothered in the slightest. Michael De Jager took second place and Barry Callanan pipped a few for third. Lindsay Mudge came in late to take the super-pin from John Clancy and Tommi Wesley who looked like sharing the prize.

A grade: 1st Paul Elliott (40 points); 2nd Michael De Jager (38); 3rd Barry Callanan (36).

Saturday, June 12

It was a close finish to the C. P. Healey with Ian Phillips and Brendane Kneebone edging out the “Docs” Simon and John. Ian Young took out the super-pin.

A grade: 1st Ian Phillips and Brendan Kneebone (47 points); 2nd Simon Locke and John Azzopardi (46); 3rd Andrew Jacobs and Craig Healey (46).

Ladies: 1st Simone Morgan (-1); 2nd Maxine Aitken (-1); 3rd Deb Bawden (-2).

Simone Morgan won the par event with Maxine Aitken and Deb Bawden in the placegetters. Lyn Kingston hit one very close to win the super-pin.

Sunday, June 13

Sunday saw 88 players take to the East course for the medley stableford round and Mitchell McMullan had a handicap breaking round to win A grade with 41 points.

A grade: 1st Mitchell McMullan (41); 2nd Garet Stobaus (39 c/b); 3rd Anthony Chapman (39).

B grade: 1st Errol Burns (40); 2nd Stephen Colliver (38 c/b); 3rd Sebastian Campbell (38).

Monday, June 14

9-holes: The competition was stableford and winning the ladies nine-hole competition with 20 points was Gillian Crawford from Elaine Roberts with 19. Marie Collins took out third place with 17 and Kathryn Sinnett was nearest the pin.

18-Hole medley: A good field of 96 players took advantage of the Queen's Birthday holiday to compete in the medley competition and Patricia Mann, visiting from Trentham, had the win in B grade with the day's top score of 38 points on a countback from Loretta Jodrell. Nearest the pin was John Bowman.

A grade: 1st Aaron Loader (37); 2nd Chris Day (36 c/b); 3rd Shannon Cronin (36).

B grade: 1st Patricia Mann (38 c/b); 2nd Loretta Jodrell (38);3rd Ruth Turpin (37).

Tuesday, June 15

Brian O’Neill relished the longer course to win the A grade event. Colin Gneil took the B grade honours and Arthur Duke had a late celebration of the Queen’s birthday in C grade. Phil Loft rose to great heights to claim the super-pin.

A grade: 1st Brian O’Neill (+4); 2nd Byron Smith ( 4); 3rd Jeff Ridge ( 3).

B grade: 1st Colin Gneil ( 4); 2nd Trevor Ritchie ( 3); 3rd Greg Murdoch ( 3).

C grade: 1st Arthur Duke ( 5); 2nd Ray Steele ( 4); 3rd Alan Peach ( 3).

Wednesday, June 16

The annual 27-holes Directors Trophy was the (nett) competition of the day, combined with the Monthly Medal for June. Leila Ritchie took out the prestigious Directors Trophy with nett 106 on a countback from Kay Sargentson.

The Monthly Medal winner was Sargentson with 71 nett over the 18-holes on a countback from Sue Byrne and Lynne Tucker. Sargentson, Byrne and Tucker are all qualified to play for the Medal of Medallists in the final in October. Nearest the pins were Rosalie Drill (A grade) and Mary Boek (B). Second shot was Barb Sands and the super-pin prize winner was Dianne McMinn.

A grade: 1st Sue Byrne (71); 2nd Joy Kelly (72); 3rd Lyn Kingston (74).

B grade: 1st Colleen Lynch (73); 2nd Simone Morgan (74 c/b); 3rd Fiona Simpson (74).

C grade: 1st Kay Sargentson (71 c/b); 2nd Lynne Tucker (71); 3rd Joy Adams (75).

Echuca Back Nine

On Friday, June 11, members played a stroke round for the P.J and G.S trophies over nine holes. The results were:

Men's A grade: 1st Dean Moore (37 nett); 2nd Norm Hodge (38).

Women's A grade: 1st Ellen Banko (40).

Men's B grade: 1st Tony Maynard (34); 2nd Michael Sheehan (35).

Women's B grade: 1st Dulcie Van Der Drift (47).

Men's nearest the pin: 6th Dean Moore.

Straightest drive: Men: Tony Maynard; women: Lorna Alchin.

Lockington

Competition golf resumed at Lockington on Saturday, with golfers really happy to be back playing as they contested a stroke round.

Andy Freemantle blitzed the field with an extraordinary score of 74-13-61, a massive eight shots better than anyone else on the day.

Freemantle cleaned up big-time, winning the Giddings Co Player of the Day voucher, plus the Privilege Cup and A grade honours.

James Hodgens (80-11-69) was runner-up in A grade, with Steve Holt (81-11-70) next best.

Despite the misfortune of hitting a wrong ball, Ian Maddison was the clear-cut winner of B grade with a solid 89-18-71.

Next best were Al Dennis (90-16-74) and Andrew Glatte (95-21-74).

C grade was won by Des Pentreath with 102-29-73.

Gartside Cup qualifiers: Andy Freemantle, James Hodgens, Steve Holt; standby: Ian Maddison.

Nearest the pins went to Al Dennis (17th); Mat Dennis (A grade; second shot 12th), Ian Maddison (B; second shot 12th), JD Wright (C; second shot 12th) and Andy Freemantle (second shot 18th for the eight-pack smack).

Spike’s Longest Drive on the 8th went to Andy Freemantle (A grade), Andrew Glatte (B), Mark Lyons (C).

The Echuca CIH eagles nest on the third was won for the first time all season, with Andrew Harris winning the 12 balls with a fine shot – and capping off a good day for golfers called Andrew.

Captain Bricka’s yardstick on the 16th continues to elude golfers, and jackpots to $179 for next week.

Bamawm

It was great to see a field of 50 take to the course on Friday for Bamawm's annual men’s 4BBB sponsored by Rochester Tyres and Batteries.

Winners for the A grade competition were Jake Wright and Liam Keenan with 40 points, on a countback from Harry Whittle and Anthony Tanner.

Winners of the B grade competition were Adam Sims and Brodie Collins with 42 points. Runners-up on 39 points were Robert Lawrie and Brad Duncan on a countback from Nick Whitfield and Brett Hay.

Longest drives went to Jake Wright (0-15), Adam Sims (16 ) and Ken Lambert (Over 70s).

Nearest the Pins were Jamie Ward (7/16- 3.71m), Brian Malone (8/17) and Anthony Tanner (4/13).

Sunday saw another great field compete in a 27 and 18-hole competition sponsored by O’Sullivans Transport.

Winner of the A grade 27 hole was Andrew Cochrane with 122-24-98 from Paul McMahon 124-24-100.

Winner of the B grade 27 hole was Jeff Carnie 129-27-102, with Neville Vicary runner-up on 138-33-105.

Winner of the 18-hole competition was Adam Ward with 76-10-66 from Kahl Oliver 86-17-69.

27-hole scratch winner was Kate McMahon with 109, from Michael Giorgianni 110.

Longest drives went to Adam Ward (0-15), Shane Broucek (16 ), and Lindsay Kramer (Over 70s)

Nearest the Pins were Michael Giorgianni (7/16-25cm), Neville Vicary (8/17), Shane Dyson (4/13 2nd shot) and Glenn Kramer (2/11 3rd shot).

It was great to be able to once again run our tournament and open our club to visitors from Lockington, Rochester, Campaspe, Mitiamo, Elmore, Wedderburn, Charlton, Neangar Park, Talbot, Ballarat and Rich River.

Thanks to all of the sponsors for their support of the club and to all of the members who have worked hard preparing the course, cooking, serving drinks and food and making the tournament such a great success.

Just a reminder that Bamawm's Mixed Yankee is coming up on Sunday, June 27 and the Ladies 4BBB will be held on Tuesday, July 6.
