In the sport, horses compete in an open, sandy arena and perform a pattern, involving a series of manoeuvres that are awarded pluses and minuses depending on how well they complete each move.
It not only takes an incredibly disciplined horse, but an incredibly disciplined rider to be successful at the sport.
Bruce Mundie is exactly that.
The Nanneella man has been riding in the sport for many years and is a continued success in his sport.
Mundie has returned from the 2019 Victorian State Championship Show and Southern Derby Spectacular at the Werribee Park National Equestrian Centre having claimed big success.
Competing in the four year old Futurity Level Two section, Mundie came away with a score of 138 points to be named champion.
In the section, riders begin with 70 points to their name, giving Mundie an earned score of 68.
The result was made extra special for Mundie by winning the event on one a home grown horse.
Rennie (or Gamble ona’ topsail) was born on the family farm and broken in as a three year old, regularly training with Mundie and partner Wendy.
