It aims to raise money for the Australian charity ‘Aussie Helpers’, which provides assistance to farmers through hay deliveries, farm and mental health services and hampers.
Ride organiser Belinda Sharples from Stanhope said the charity had been in her life for a number of years.
“Two years ago Aussie Helpers turned up on our doorstep, we couldn’t do much for them then but we want to give something back now,” Ms Sharples said.
“It’s important to help the helpers… without farmers we would have nothing.”
The ride will begin in Stanhope and continue for six weeks and travel through Tongala, Echuca, Moama, Deniliquin, Pretty Pine, Booroorban, Hay, Bolligal, Hillston, Merriwagga, Goolgowi, Griffith, Finley, Jerilderie, Barmah, Ky West and finish back in Stanhope on May 5, covering 935kms.
The riders will make their way through Echuca on the evening of March 25 and Moama on March 26.
Two riders from Echuca will be taking part in the ride with the hope of more locals joining the charge.
“We’ve raised about $400, but we’re aiming for as much as we can, hopefully a couple of thousand,” Ms Sharples said.
Anyone who would like to join any or the whole ride on horse or horse-drawn vehicles are welcome.
Costs is $5 for a day, $25 for a stage (a week between major towns) and $120 for the full six weeks.
