Jade Mangino, 24, was sentenced in Bendigo County Court on Friday to four years’ imprisonment with a non-parole period of two years after pleading guilty to aggravated burglary with an offensive weapon, recklessly causing injury, theft, burglary and intentionally damaging property. Mangino broke into a Hare St home on April 23, 2016, produced a knife and slashed the 63-year-old male occupant to the neck and chest when he refused to give up his car keys.
He then smashed photo frames on the wall which caused severe tendon damage to his feet that required surgery.
Mangino fled to NSW and Queensland soon after before being arrested by Queensland police in May 2016 for other matters.
Echuca detectives arrested Mangino that month in Charleville, Queensland, and he was extradited to Victoria in July last year after being released from Woodford Correctional Centre where he had served a two-year and two-month jail sentence for unrelated matters.
He has been disqualified from driving for three years.
Mangino has already spent 274 days in custody.
POLICE are appealing for witnesses who saw a dangerous driver in Echuca last week.
A red Holden sedan was driving in a dangerous manner around High and Pakenham streets about 3.40pm on Thursday. Witnesses are urged to contact Senior Constable Simon O’Toole at Echuca police on 54831500.
