STUDENTS from St Joseph’s School will be strapping on their sneakers again as they take part in the Walk Safely to School Day on Friday.
The community event seeks to promote road safety, health, public transport and the environment.
The annual campaign encourages all primary school children, their parents and carers to walk and commute regularly and safely to school.
St Joseph’s School health and welfare support officer Alex Logie said they have had success with their exercise in the past and aim to keep up the standard.
‘‘We have recently and successfully achieved our benchmarks for the Physical Activity and Movement health priority area of the Healthy Schools Achievement Program and have been recognised by the Victorian government for all our hard work,’’ Ms Logie said.
The program encourages the school to use a whole-school approach to health and wellbeing and builds on the work the school is doing to be recognised as a healthy school.
‘‘We will be participating in the 20th anniversary of the Walk to School event,’’ Ms Logie said.
‘‘We will be meeting at Rotary Park as a whole school and community group and will all be walking together through the main street of Rochester to St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School for a healthy breakfast that all participants are invited to.’’
