While Scott said she can't remember how many shows she's done at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, or what any of them were called, there is one that sticks in her mind.
It's the time her disapproving mother missed seeing her rendition of the Rage Against The Machine's song Killing In The Name, because the staging collapsed.
"This huge light shattered ... and then all the scaffolding and black curtains, the whole thing collapsed," she said.
For Scott, it's proof the comedy gods really do exist - although they haven't always smiled on fellow comedian Nath Valvo.
He remembers performing in a 35-seater side room at The Forum, and accidentally locking himself in a stairwell before his set, which got a one-star review.
"No one knew I was there. I was banging on the door for ten minutes and the audience had to just sit there," he said.
An audience of more than 700,000 people is expected at the festival, which boasts the biggest lineup yet, with almost 800 shows across more than 130 venues.
"If you walk through the city during festival time, the streets are packed and the trams are full," said festival chair Bill Shannon at the launch event on Monday.
Yet sustainability is the event's biggest challenge, he said, with rising costs, a shortage of venues, and increasing competition.
Victorian creative industries minister Colin Brooks opened the festival disclosing his staff had warned - nay, threatened - him not to attempt any jokes.
For 2026 the Victorian government is providing about $1.5 million in funding for the event, he said.
The latest figures supplied to the national charities regulator show that in 2025 the festival saw record box office figures of $22.9 million, and about $3.6 million in total government funding.
Melbourne's Lord Mayor Nicholas Reece had clearly not heeded advice about competing with professional comedians at the launch, and tried several jokes of his own.
Somehow, the staging did not collapse.
The Melbourne International Comedy Festival runs from Wednesday until April 19.
