And if she gets her way at Stadium Australia on Saturday night, Blayney hopes success could be just the beginning of a coaching journey filled with silverware that helps re-establish Japan as a powerhouse of women's football.
Blayney - a 16-cap Australian international - has had a front-row seat to Japan's near-faultless Asian Cup campaign, where she works as an assistant to Nils Nielsen.
Japan have smashed all comers in five straight wins, scoring 28 goals and conceding just one.
"It's been phenomenal, Nils is an exceptional operator," Blayney told AAP.
"I'm a former Matilda, but I don't think you ever stop being one. I grew up playing and then coaching in our junior national teams.
"It (the Japan job) was just a good opportunity for me to get out there and grow and experience something new, and then hopefully I can bring that back to Australia at some point for sure."
Blayney has spent the past year based in England, where she acts as a sounding board between Japan's players in Women's Super League and Nielsen's senior set-up.
"A lot of the development outside of international windows goes into the girls at the club, so the stronger relationships we have, the better, and we're seeing the fruits of that at this tournament," Blayney said.
Nielsen is clearly impressed with Blayney's work, claiming at Friday's pre-match press conference that "no matter what the future brings for her, she is going to shine".
"She has the same challenge as I do, even though she's learning Japanese faster," he said.
"Maybe it's because she's younger, or maybe it's just because I'm not smart enough, but she is and she goes about things in a very analytical way. I'm perhaps a bit more emotional and follow my instincts.
"We are enjoying working with the Japanese staff. But her in particular, she's right here (in my heart), and she will always be here."
Japan - ranked eighth in the world by FIFA - are considered favourites for Saturday's final.
Their ambitious federation is not done there, with a strategy termed "Nadeshiko Vision" driving their desire to make Japan a dominant force, not just in Asia but around the world.
Blayney, who previously coached the Young Matildas (Australia's under-20s), is adamant there is more to come from Japan as they look ahead to next year's World Cup in Brazil.
"We go to the US in two weeks playing against one of the best teams in the world," Blayney said.
"We're certainly preparing ourselves for what potentially being No.1 in the world looks like, which is what we aim to be."
