The future of Simpson and chief executive Trevor Nisbett are a hot talking point following Saturday's 171-point loss to Sydney - the equal fourth biggest loss in VFL/AFL history.
Simpson is contracted until the end of 2025.
It means if West Coast cut ties with him and pay him out for the final two years of his contract, it will heavily affect their soft cap - effectively forcing them to pay extra 'tax' to the AFL.
Given West Coast's riches, it's an outcome they can absorb.
Eagles chairman Paul Fitzpatrick declared on Sunday that the club still has "faith" Simpson is the right man to lead them forward.
But with fan anger building, Simpson is likely to need a drastic change in fortunes in order to hang onto the role beyond this year.
Nisbett has been the club's chief executive since 1999, but it's been reported he could depart the Eagles at the end of 2024.
The current plight could fast forward those plans.
West Coast are on a 12-match losing run and have copped four losses in excess of 100 points this year.
The debacle against Sydney was one of the worst performances ever seen at VFL/AFL level, but Shuey says Simpson shouldn't cop the blame.
"It's not Simmo's fault," Shuey said on Monday.
"I don't know how many times I can say it, but it'll turn around soon and I'm looking forward to - whether I'm here or not - watching these young guys hit their prime.
"And Simmo will probably still be coaching and the club will be back up the top end of the ladder and it won't be all doom and gloom as what it is now."
Some Eagles fans who are demanding change are threatening to boycott either part or all of Sunday's game against St Kilda at Optus Stadium.
Shuey says it's the players who should be copping the brunt of the backlash.
He even joked that his black eye was inflicted by Simpson.
"We're the ones out there playing, we're the ones not giving our forwards a chance to kick goals, we're the ones not defending well enough," Shuey said.
"We're the ones out there as players allowing other teams to kick 200 points.
"There's not much you can do from the coaching box.
"I reckon I've said two or three times in these press conferences this year that we've got his (Simpson's) back.
"I don't know what more he could have done from the coaching box on a night where we let a team kick 200 points.
"He's doing it tough like we all are. But he's so committed to the cause, and that's why we love him."
Shuey said the review of Saturday's performance was more "brutal than in weeks gone by".
The 33-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season, but the fourth-year skipper is desperate to play on and help lead the club's rebuild.
He accepts responsibility for the scoreboard carnage that is happening.
"It's frustrating, but I'm not feeling sorry for myself because I'm part of the problem," he said.
Former Eagles forward Scott Cummings says sweeping changes need to be made in the wake of the loss to Sydney.
"They need a full clean-out. They need new voices, they need new faces," Cummings told SEN radio on Monday.
