Swanpool’s very own international country performer Wayne Horsburgh is set to return home for an afternoon concert on Sunday, September 22, accompanied by his "Love That Country Music" colleagues from Sydney, Greg Hooper (on keyboards) and Bob Howe (vocals and guitar).
Wayne was one of the last students to attend Lima State School and spent most of his early years around the Swanpool district, where his musical career had its early beginnings when he sang at the Swanpool Memorial Hall for dances and cabarets.
After finishing his education at Benalla Technical School, followed by five years as a bank teller, Wayne became a full-time entertainer and moved to the Sydney clubs in 1979.
Since then he has travelled the world performing his own style of country music, including 25 years going back and forth to the United States.
Some of his early musical influences were Frank Ifield, Roy Rogers, Wilf Carter and Slim Whitman – hence his love for yodelling, which is always a crowd-pleaser at his own shows.
This will be a concert to remember as Wayne returns to Swanpool Hall with Greg and Bob to take the audience down memory lane with some great country songs and instrumental tunes.
The concert will be held Sunday, September 22, from 2pm. Tickets for the concert can be purchased at Amcal Pharmacy or Murray Goulburn Credit Union in Benalla. They are also on sale at Swanpool Cinema. For more on Horsburgh, head to his website, www.waynehorsburgh.com
