From those who fight it, to family and friends who rally around their loved ones — this was the motivating factor for Aleisha Law, Tegan Hadjialexiou and Karli O'Callaghan to host their first Biggest Morning Tea.
At Mathoura’s Murray Shire Hall on Sunday, May 30, the trio are combining their collective power to raise money for the Cancer Council.
“It’s something I’ve always wanted to do — I’m a qualified chef, so I have a passion for baking and cooking — but haven’t had the opportunity yet,” Ms Law said.
“I don’t think there is anyone who hasn’t been touched by cancer. We feel quite strongly about it.
“It’s important for a small community to be involved and to see everyone come together to support something like this.
“We are aiming for $1000 but would love to raise more than that.”
Growing up in Mathoura, Ms Law recently returned to home with her family, and quickly roped in friends Ms Hadjialexiou and Ms O'Callaghan to help spearhead the morning tea.
“A few of the older ladies used to do it in Mathoura, but I think they were happy for a few of us younger ones to step up and do it,” Ms Law said.
“And a lot of other people around town have definitely put their hands up to help on the day.”
For a $20 entry ticket, attendees will receive a gift bag, entry into a raffle along with the chance to win a lucky door prize.
