Rutherglen’s most popular annual event, Winery Walkabout has been cancelled.

Winemakers of Rutherglen made the difficult decision today in line with current public health concerns.

The popular event was originally scheduled to be held on the Queen’s Birthday long weekend (June 12th and 13th), yet following a snap lockdown in Victoria, was subsequently rescheduled for July 24 and 25.

In a statement Winemakers of Rutherglen said all current ticket holders will be entitled to a full refund which will be processed within 14 days.

"Now, with the uncertainty of the ongoing COVID crisis unfolding around us yet again, the health and safety of our staff, patrons and wider Rutherglen community is our primary concern and core responsibility," the statement read.

"Whilst we are extremely disappointed to not be hosting this much-loved event, we remain sincerely appreciative to our loyal patrons and look forward to being reunited with you all in 2022 (surely!).

"In the meantime, we look forward to welcoming patrons to one or more of our cellar doors over the coming months and encourage everyone to continue supporting our wineries directly through their online wine stores."
