The day showcases true bush racing and country atmosphere without the need to travel long distances.
In its 137th year, the race meeting still has its unique boughshed, featuring boughs cut from nearby Boree or gum trees.
These were traditionally cut by all the jackaroos and jillaroos living in the Carrathool district and provide welcome shade and protection from the sun.
The six event race program is attracting horses from far and wide, and carries $65,000 in prize money.
Highlight of the race is the coveted Rivcott Carrathool Cup.
Carrathool race day is also home of the Original Jackaroo Dash/Jillaroo Sprint which dates back to 1980 and continues to grow in popularity each year, with fantastic prizes to be won. This popular foot-race event is always favoured by the young people in the district.
Fashions on the Field carry prizes to the value of $7000 and will be judged by Stephanie Kwong, winner of FOTF on Oaks Day at the Melbourne Cup Carnival.
Categories are Jack of the Track and Little Lady of the Day (children 12 and under), Belle of the Boughshed (ladies 25 and under), Lady of the Day (ladies over 25), Best Dressed Gentleman and Best Dressed Couple.
Live entertainment from Wobbly Boot from Wagga will continue from dusk to 11pm when the gates close. Camping is available at the track afterwards.
The committee and helpers have worked hard to ensure a good day out for patrons. All you need to bring is a hat and cash, as there are no ATM facilities.
