About 450 students from St Joseph's, Moama Anglican Grammar, Echuca Specialist School, Echuca College and River City Christian College gathered with members of the community to sign pledge boards as a way of promising a bright future.
The Pathways Pledge Ceremony is organised by Echuca-Moama Beacon Foundation and has been running for 18 years.
"It's sort of like a promise to themselves that they'll do the best that they can to have a positive future career pathway," Beacon co-ordinator Cheryl Sweeney said.
The students were joined by guest speaker Andrew Walker, a Echuca local and former Carlton footballer.Â
Andrew now runs local business Gravity Shack and an ambassador for Echuca Moama Tourism who spoke of his success and encouraged the students to strive to do the same.
Year 9 Echuca College student Johannah Grundy said it's a great way of making kids feel less alone when it comes to getting ready for their futures.
"I think it's a really good thing for kids to do. It makes them feel a bit better about themselves as they have people supporting them in what they want to do," she said.
The pledge ceremony is part of Beacon's Real Futures program which supports young people successfully transition from education to meaningful employment.
