“A visit to the dentist is never as bad or hurts as much as people think it does,” Dr Lee said.
“If you jump on top of things, it is often easier and much more straightforward.”
Drawing from 20 years of experience, Dr Lee has observed distinct gender differences in dental care approaches.
“Men often leave things, don't deal with them early, leaving little things a little too late,” he said.
“And then they often become bigger than they need to be.
“Women do tend to get on top of things and treat their teeth when they first have a bit of a niggle. The wives and mums make the appointment for the kids and themselves, and sometimes it is a struggle to get the guys in, but it doesn't have to be.”
Preventive care of your teeth, including routine check-ups every six months, can help reduce the risk of more serious and costly dental issues later on.
In a routine check-up, Dr Lee or one of his team of dentists can examine your teeth and gums for early signs of cavities, gum inflammation or lesions.
They can professionally clean your teeth to remove plaque and tartar build-up, preventing tooth decay and gum disease.
This early intervention simplifies treatment and improves the long-term outlook for oral health.
Campaspe Dental has noticed an increase in cases of grinding and jaw clenching, which can be managed with occlusal splint therapy or night guards.
“There is a bit of stress around, from the last couple of years, lending itself to grinding and teeth clenching,” Dr Lee said.
Dr Lee particularly warns against dangerous habits common among tradespeople.
“Guys tend to do things with their teeth that they are not meant to do, like ripping tape and holding things between their teeth,” Dr Lee said.
“Tradies are trouble for this, holding things like nails between their teeth.”
Campaspe Dental offers comprehensive services including preventative care, cosmetic dental procedures, whitening, veneers, crown and bridge dentistry, and tooth restoration.
