DeChambeau leads in LIV Singapore as Aussie lurks

Bryson DeChambeau has surged clear of his rivals in the LIV Golf Singapore tournament, with Australian stalwart Marc Leishman still well positioned to cash in should the American powerhouse slip up.

DeChambeau took control on Friday, shooting a tournament-best six-under-par 65 to move to 10 under at halfway, three shots clear of a group of five pursuers.

But Leishman, leading the Aussie challenge at Sentosa Golf Club, is among the next group of three, tied for seventh alongside Americans Matthew Wolff and Charles Howell III, who are at six under.

The 42-year-old Leishman, seeking his first victory on the tour since winning LIV Miami last April, is going along nicely, after a second successive three-under 68.

Unlike his opening round on Thursday, though, when he didn't drop a shot, Friday's 18 holes proved much more erratic as he mixed six birdies with three bogeys.

It left the Victorian just a shot behind the quintet of Jon Rahm, who shot 68 as he seeks a second triumph in a week, Thomas Detry (67), Louis Oosthuizen (67), Lee Westwood (68) and Richard T. Lee (68).

But they're all pursuing two-time US Open champ DeChambeau, who made six birdies, an eagle and one bogey.

Hong Kong winner Rahm still looks dangerous, though, after extending his record of consecutive under-par rounds in LIV events to 23.

Among the Aussie contingent, Cam Smith's bright start on Thursday with an opening 69 was offset by a second-round 72 that's left him at one under, tied for 24th.

But Lucas Herbert picked up after his opening 73 with one of the rounds of the day, a 66, to move to three under for the tournament, in a tie for 15th.

Elvis Smylie, winner of the season-opener in Saudi Arabia, was at two over after a level-par 71 as the all-Australian Ripper GC quartet still lay fifth in the team event, on eight under, seven behind the DeChambeau-led Crushers GC.

Northern Ireland veteran Graeme McDowell aced the 156-yard par-three second hole, becoming the first LIV golfer to make two holes-in-one on the tour.

Extraordinarily, the 46-year-old achieved the feat just a week after holing-in-one in the LIV Hong Kong event.

"It cost me a very expensive bottle of wine last week in Hong Kong, and I guess it's going to cost me another very expensive bottle of wine, which I look forward to," McDowell said with a smile after his round.
