Despite defeat to Euroa, a fast start showed the potential of Rochester’s squad going forward.
The Tigers trailed by a point at the first change against the 2022 grand finalist in Euroa before the Pies pulled away, with duo Mitch Cricelli and Hamish Hooppell keeping Rochy competitive.
Tigers ruckman Cricelli continued to showcase his abilities this season in a starring role, collecting 25 disposals and 16 contested possessions in a dynamic showing.
Down back, Hooppell provided the run out of the Tigers’ backline with a game-high 11 rebounds 50s, while also reeling in nine marks in a 23-disposals outing.
On the flipside, six goals to Jett Trotter and a breakout performance from young gun Lachlan Hill (36 disposals, eight clearances, 16 contested possessions) inspired Euroa to a 40-point win.
Rochester will be hopeful its big guns will fire it to at least one more win with clashes against Echuca and Shepparton United to round out season 2023.
Out at Benalla, a budding Echuca midfielder registered one of his best performances of the season.
Callum Parsons was in the thick of the action in the Murray Bombers’ 71-point win over Benalla, tallying 25 disposals at 88-per cent efficiency to go with a game-high 13 marks for the Murray Bombers’ 20-gamer.
Jack Evans also earned top billing for the reigning premier, involved in 13 scoring opportunities and collecting 27 disposals.
Evans has been industrious in 2023, averaging 21 disposals, six marks, and a goal per game.
