Allison was stranded in Melbourne with no support around her and as a single mother to three-month-year-old Poppy, life in stage four restrictions began to take its toll.
But the family's push to be reunited was granted by the NSW Government late on Friday afternoon when Allison was given a permit to enter the state.
“I couldn't believe it at first,” Debby said.
“When Ally arrived on Saturday I was so relieved. We had been trying to get the permit for several weeks and it felt like we weren't going to get anywhere.”
After having no luck through the government, Debby reached out to Member for Murray Helen Dalton who was determined to take the case all the way to the top.
“I'll never be able to thank Helen and her staff enough for what they've done for our family,” Debby said.
“They went above and beyond for us. I was always being kept in the loop about what was happening which certainly helped to calm me down.
“I received a call from Helen's office late on Friday and was told to check my emails because the permit had been granted.
“It wasn't there at the time but when it dropped in I just started to cry.
“I called Allison straight away and she didn't believe me. After everything we've been through it was quite the shock”
Allison said coming to Moama had taken a lot of weight off her shoulders.
“I felt trapped in Melbourne,” Allison said.
“Because of restrictions I wasn't able to see anyone to ask for help. And it wasn't worth the risk with how easy the disease spreads.
“I actually spent my birthday at Mitcham hospital in the mum and baby unit because the stress was too much. I'm very thankful to the staff for the support they showed me.”
Young Poppy's life has already been a rollercoaster ride.
Only Debby was able to be at her birth and since then the grandmother hasn't been able to hold her granddaughter.
“Having her is going to be so much better than only having Facetime,” she said.
“I'm looking forward to being able to help Allison out and hopefully give her a break when she needs it.
“This is a very special moment for our family.”
Allison and Poppy will complete 14 days quarantine at the family home with spot checks to be carried out.
They will undergo a COVID test on day 10.
