The Transit Dance Company is calling on performers in the Goulburn Valley to dust off their dancing shoes and hone their creative skills as part of a four-day workshop led by choreographers Paul Malek and Jayden Hicks.
Between April 13 and 16, participants can take part in the School Holiday Dance Program workshop, which will see those present put together an original 20-minute dance routine based around their stories.
A representative from Riverlinks spoke of the rare opportunity that the series of workshops presented for young dancers in the region.
“Riverlinks and Transit Dance Company are running a School Holiday Dance Program — a unique and rewarding four-day experience that gives young dancers a genuine insight into the contemporary dance creative process,” they said.
“It’s fun, inclusive and designed to nurture creative expression and a strong sense of belonging.”
At the end of the four days, this dance piece will be performed alongside another work, entitled And it Passed, by Transit Dance Company at Riverlinks Westside in Mooroopna on April 16 at 7:30pm.
Riverlinks manager Matthew Schroeders shared his enthusiasm for this year’s event, with dancers aged 12 to 25 urged to participate.
“We’re delighted to once again celebrate our incredible local talent and to welcome the Transit Dance Company to Shepparton,” he said.
Youngsters from across Greater Shepparton have been urged to take part in the program.
“This year’s performance is set to inspire, continuing our commitment to offering Greater Shepparton students meaningful opportunities to learn from some of Australia’s leading choreographers."
Explaining more about what to expect from the And It Passed spectacular too, a representative from Riverlinks detailed the wide range of themes that the work encompassed.
“Pondering the nature of life, beginnings and endings, creation and destruction, holding on and letting go, experiences passed and yet to come, grief and joy,” they said.
“Transit Dance is thrilled to be presenting this mesmerising work by Chimene Steele-Prior.
“Don't miss out on this exhilarating fusion of creativity and expression, guaranteed to leave you on the edge of your seat!”
Tickets are available online or through the Riverlinks box office, which can be reached on 5832 9511.
