The event will be co-hosted by Daniel’s father, Daryl, who will provide insight into the challenges of raising a child who has autism.
“Since 2017, we have been delivering our current presentation together and travelling all over Australia (and occasionally internationally) with it,” Mr Giles said.
“Primarily when presenting, we are focused on making a difference to the lives of those attending by giving them better insight into autism through our lived experience.”
While the pair have presented the talk countless times, they eagerly look forward to shining a light on the condition that informs parents and the broader community.
“We also focus on discussing the approaches we have used to help Daniel to reach his full potential,” Mr Giles said.

“The biggest highlight is when we have parents of young autistic children approach us at the end of the presentation, sometimes in tears because we have given them hope for the future of their child.”
Daniel’s sister, Leash Purcell, will provide a sibling’s insight into Daniel’s home life, attending school and, the challenges for a sibling and her perspective as a qualified VIT registered teacher.
In 2017, on the Queen’s birthday, Daniel was awarded Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for his “service to disability and the community”.
The evening will involve an opportunity to appreciate the many viewpoints of people with autism as well as those who support people who face the daily challenges and benefits that autism offers.
The topics to be discussed will include diagnosis, school journey, independent living, employment and approaches used to achieve optimal outcomes.
The information session will also feature a sensory overload experience and an opportunity for a Q&A.
The event is on Thursday, November 23, at the Moama RSL, 56 Merool Rd, Moama.
