It’s a rare sight to see community leaders from across the entire shire gathered together, but that’s precisely what happened this week at Radcliffe’s in Echuca.

The Campaspe Shire Council Citizen Awards were held on Thursday, January 22 where community members and leaders gathered for an evening of celebration.
Awards were presented across three categories, honouring those special citizens who show leadership, service and community spirit in their communities.
Toolleen Hotel proprietor Jim Webb has been named Campaspe Shire's Citizen of the Year for 2026.

Jim Webb was named Campaspe’s Citizen of the Year for his contributions to strengthening the Toolleen community over the past two decades.
As the proprietor of the Toolleen Hotel, Jim has passionately championed countless local initiatives and devoted himself to preserving the town's history through the Tin Shed, blacksmith display and heritage town signage.
Matilda Sowter from Kyabram was named Young Citizen of the Year for her leadership and commitment to her community.
Balancing her high school studies, she has volunteered with the Kyabram SES, devoted time to her school’s Breakfast Club, mentored younger students and advocated for regional areas through Youth Parliament.
headspace Echuca’s Youth Reference Group was named Community Group of the Year.

Community Group of the Year went to the headspace Echuca’s Youth Reference Group for its work as ambassadors for youth wellbeing and mental health.
The group's contributions have driven meaningful shire improvements and established inclusive community spaces, including the Street Library, Indigenous Art Project and Looking Forward Zine.
Campaspe Shire Mayor Daniel Mackrell congratulated all nominees and winners and thanked them for their contributions over the past year.
“We are fortunate to have outstanding community members who selflessly give their time, skills and energy to strengthen social connections, create opportunities and improve the wellbeing of residents,” Cr Mackrell said.
“From young leaders to long‑standing volunteers and community groups, your contributions build a more connected and resilient Campaspe.”
