U14s GCJFL — United 3.3.21 lt St. Augustine’s 10.20.80
United took on St Augustine’s at home on Sunday and were lucky to miss Saturday’s horrible weather.
St Augustine’s put on a strong show in the first quarter to keep United scoreless with the ball hardly getting forward.
Some strong pressure from United’s backline saw several rushed behinds for the visitors.
In the second quarter, United fought hard and managed to keep the ball in play and prevent additional goals to St Augustine’s, but were unable to get the ball through the opposition’s backline reguarly. At half-time, St Augustine’s led 41 to 7.
The United midfield managed to lead well in the second half, with Dylan Purbrick managing to take possession of the ball, while Lenny Cook, Zane Martin and Hunter Beveridge all took on the opposition in a big effort. Captain for the day Mitch Wood led the team through a difficult game.
Awards: Moama Pizza – Zane Martin, Subway – Lenny Cook, Paramount Movies – Mitch Wood, Petstock – Brody Hartford, United Canteen – Jett Lia, and Subway – Hunter Beveridge.
U14s MFL — United 17.15.117 def. Barooga 0.3.3
With wintery conditions forecast we headed to Barooga ready for some old-fashioned wet weather footy only to be greeted by near perfect conditions.
A stiff breeze to one end made it a bit difficult but the boys acquitted themselves well all day.
Ollie Poole, Ryan Stobaus, Nash Ramage and Hunter Dixon won clearance after clearance, which gave Will Graham, Riley Godfrey, Bryce Barnstable and Jacko Gronow plenty of opportunities to score and at quarter time we had a nice lead.
The second quarter was a hard slog into the wind and Fayte Belmont-Wickliffe, Toby O’Brien and the rest of the defenders did a great job to repel Barooga’s repeated forward entries.
The third quarter saw us pile on the goals, with Ollie and Barney cashing in on the breeze and Sam Chapman got to the right spot to finish off a great passage of play with a goal.
In the last quarter Kody Kendrick went into the ruck and gave us a great contest, River Hornsby was in everything as was Isaiah Bassett and by the end of the game we were happy to have had nine different goal kickers.
Another solid team effort.
Awards: Riley Godfrey (Eagles Award), Ollie Poole (Eagles Canteen), Isaiah Bassett (Subway), Ryan Stobaus (Roma Pizza), Fayte Belmont-Wickliffe (Petstock), Toby O’Brien (De Trazani Hair).
U17s — United 19.19.133 def. Barooga 0.1.1
After an average effort last round, the United boys were keen to put on a good show against Barooga.
From the first bounce it was obvious that a tough week on the track had paid off.
United jumped out of the blocks and were 42 points up at quarter time.
The midfielders were dominating, and the forwards in Jesse Garner and Ned Osborne were working hard and scoring fast.
The second quarter was no different with the backline players not seeing much action.
Ruckman Eli Spiers was dominating the taps and giving players like Brady Simpson and Corey Sidebottom first use of the ball.
At the main break, United had kicked 13.9, in the best first half for the young Eagles this season.
With a bit of rain coming in, the second half slowed up, but the United lads powered on to a 132-point victory.
Overall a good consistent effort from everyone.
Jesse Garner was outstanding kicking eight goals, and Ned Osborne snagged five.
Awards: Jesse Garner (Paramount), Zak Hard (Roma), Ned Osborne (Charcoal Chicken), Brady Simpson (KFC), Corey Sidebottom (United Canteen), Darby Blachford (Nifty’s encouragement).
