A smoke haze was hanging over Deniliquin and district on a few different days this week, with winds too low to move it out of the inversion layer.
While landholders are being urged to burn responsibly so as not to adversely impact their neighbours or communities (see page 16), we encourage locals to be prepared too.
If you have a history of breathing difficulties, limit your time outside on days where smoke and dust cover are thick.
Please make sure to carry any necessary medications where ever you go, and speak with your doctor or health professional if you have continuing breathing difficulties.

Landale going to Paris
Jock Landale will once again represent Australia at the Olympics.
Making his Olympics debut in 2021, Landale has been named in the Boomers’ squad which will compete in Paris from July to August.
He was named in the first intake for the 22-man squad last week.
He is one of 10 players from the Tokyo bronze medal breakthrough in the squad, with others including Joe Ingles, Patty Mills, Josh Green, Matisse Thybulle, Dante Exum, Chris Goulding, Matthew Dellavedova, Duop Reath and Nick Kay.
Landale is the son of Clive and Suellen Landale, and the grandson of Hunter (dec) and Peggy Landale.
Landale started his basketball career while at Geelong Grammar School, with an appearance in the Australian under-19s nationals team in a tournament in China in 2013 followed soon after by a scholarship to Californian college Saint Mary’s.
After college he signed with the Atlanta Hawks for the Summer League, played in Europe and Serbian team KK Partizan before coming home to play in the NBL.
He was playing for Melbourne United when selected for the Boomers’ Tokyo squad, but his dream to play for the NBA in the USA was realised when he was signed by the San Antonio Spurs last year.
Landale is now with the Houston Rockets.

Australian audience favourite Acacia Quartet has paired with phenomenal international guests Emile Cantor and Laurentiu Sbarcea to tour the Riverina.
The Deniliquin concert will be hosted from 3pm tomorrow at the South West Music Regional Conservatorium in Cressy St.

Brush up on your trivia
Get the books out and brush up on your pop culture trivia, the Deniliquin Salvation Army’s trivia evening is back next week.
The Salvos will test your knowledge at a fundraising night on Friday, April 26.
The fun begins at 7.30pm, with entry just $10 per person. The ticket price includes supper.
The trivia night will be hosted at the Salvation Army Hall, and all are welcome.
Funds raised on the night will support The Salvation Army projects overseas.
Sad day for Holden lovers
District Holden fans are a tad on the sad side this week after the closure of Echuca’s National Holden Motor Museum on Sunday.
The museum had operated for 28 years.
The museum was busy on its final day, with people trying to get one last look at their favourite Holden cars.
The owners, Mark Galea and Tony Galea, made the announcement in January after no buyers came forward to purchase it from them.

Rally tally update
The Beyond Bitmen rally which passed through Deniliquin on Saturday is edging closer to raising $500,00 for mental health charity BeyondBlue.
At the time of going to print yesterday, the tally was just shy of $460,000.
While the rally has already ended, the donation tab is still open and accepting contributions.
