City of Echuca’s division one weekend pennant side scored its best result for the season when they defeated ladder leaders, Tongala, on Saturday.
The Echuca side grabbed an early lead and was able to maintain that lead throughout the day; eventually winning by 18 shots, with three rinks all winning their games.
Matt Liverton’s team of Wayne Brooks, Jim Ferrier and Ivan Hicks continued their good form to win their game by 14 shots.
The division two side travelled to Tongala and returned home with a 41 shot win.
Toby Egan’s team of John Brown, Stan Glasser and Carlie Taylor finished their day with a win by 24 shots.
Division three played Elmore at home and finished the day with a tied match.
The Echuca side had two winning rinks in this match.
The division four side also travelled to Tongala where they won by 27 shots.
The team of John Hollowood, John Simpson, Keith McGowan and Jacob Brighton combined well to win their game by 21 shots.
Division Five was due to play Tongala at home but unfortunately they received a walkover.
Members are reminded to constantly check the noticeboard at the club to keep up with events, both bowling and social.
Entries are now being taken for the Christmas fours tournaments, with the ladies playing on Wednesday, December 11, and the men’s event being on Thursday, December 19.
The club is also holding a trivia night on Friday, December 6, and more information for this event can be found on the noticeboard.
Members are urged to support this worthwhile event for the club.

Lockington
Last Tuesday, the women enjoyed ideal conditons for their weekly social bowls.
On the day they played rinks with Denise Gilmore, Annie Haines, Annette Brereton, Phyllis MacFarlane (s) winning the trophies.
In the club championships, the women have almost completed their second round with some close results to date.
Ann Lowrie defeated reigning champion Kath Palmer, Phyllis MacFarlane def. Joy Weller, Annette Brereton def. Betty Mustey and Margaret Davis def. Lorraine Appleby and will play Denise Gilmore with winner to meet Lowrie.
The club championship for the men is down to the wire with Ray Hanson defeating Phillip Cunington in a semi-final thriller with the very last bowl deciding the match.
With the score at 24-all, Cunnington was sitting on the cusp of victory, holding three shots when Hanson delivered his final bowl to draw an almost resting toucher and win the game 25-24 and book a spot in the final where he will be chasing his third championship title in a row.
In other games, Bill Musgrove defeated Don Isgro in comfortable fashion and will play Russell Shawcross in the other semi-final.
Shawcross eliminated Ken Main 25-22 after trailing early — Musgrove and Shawcross will play early this week.
The CVBD weekend pennant did not provide the club with much joy, as both division two and four suffered severe losses to their stronger Moama opponents.
Division two lost their match 40-103 with no rink wins.
J. Harris lt. N. Varcoe 10-25; G. Turner lt. R. Young 12-42; Russell Shawcross lt. G Thornley 18-36.
Division four battled gamely to be well in contention at the break.
However, the following period of play witnessed a couple of big numbers gained by the opposition to enable Moama to score a 72-54 victory.
Geoff Shawcross lt. S. Sutton 22-25; Bill Musgrove lt. R. Kelly 16-30; Steve Peter lt. A Jones 16-17.
On Sunday, a team travelled to Tongala for the Bendigo Bank Fours.
The rink comprising Ray Hanson, Andrew Harris, Tom Davis, Russell Shawcross (s) won all games to finish third in the star studded field.
The club offers get well wishes to David Lupton who has spent time in hospital.
Congratulations to Lorrie Forster on celebrating her 80th birthday at the club on Sunday.
The Victorian Open Bowls Championship has been completed with several local CVBD bowlers featuring in the event.
In the ladies triples competition, Terri Thompson, Lyn Rogan, Bev Trengove (s); Jayde Campbell, Sally Beach, Melissa Roberts (s) and the trio comprising Lee Beattie, Leica Roney, Jean Fairchild (s) were all sectional winners.
In the first knockout round, Roberts defeated Trengove while the Fairchild team won their game to make the next round.
Unfortunately, both the Roberts and Fairchild combinations lost their third round matches.
The men’s triples results featured David Murray, Paul Clear, Mick Humphies (s) along with the team of Philip Thorn, David Wells, Ian Brimblecombe (s) winning their respective sections.
The Humphries trio lost their first knockout round game while the Brimblecombe team progressed to the final 16 before bowing out in a clsoely fought match against the eventual winners.
In the State Mixed Pairs there were several CVBD teams making the knockout stage.
Lyn Snell/Tony Hawley, Pat Schram/Philip Thorn, Leica Roney/Dean Drummond, Marilyn and Wayne Stephenson along with Jean Fairchild/Tony Cantwell.
Roney and Drummond defeated the Stephenson duo in the second round before losing the next round while Schram and Thorn made the final 16.
Congratulations to all bowlers on representing their respective clubs and divisions in such a talented field of local, state and international bowlers.

Saturday was a big day for the club, with all weekend sides having a wins.
We have never fielded five sides before so this is history being made, congratulations to all our players.

This coming week is a great opportunity to play your club games, with no pennant on Saturday due to the World Bowls Challenge being played in Moama.
We have a full Saturday to play our outstanding games.
The men’s pairs draw has been done and is on display at the bowls office.

Moama RSL
In all, 22 players played three games of 10 ends.
The winners on 48 points were Ric Panozzo, Dawn Beer, Phyllis Allez and Carole Glass.
Runners-up with 42 points Elaine Murphy, Fay Smith, June Simpson and Heather Smith.
Consolation prizes went to Denise Lee, Faye Leahy and Liz Portwine.
Rich River
Our weekend pennant teams continue to perform well with divisions 1, 2 and 4 winning as divisions 3 and 5 were narrowly defeated.
No weekend pennant games are scheduled for Saturday, November 30 but a social game is available at 1pm for those members interested and only two more games are due to be played prior to the Christmas break.
Mid-week pennant recommences this Friday after a two-week break.
We welcome back the 60 and Over bowls group today for the second time this year with games commencing at 10am.
It is likely we will have eight teams from our club competing in the tournament.
Congratulations to John Langley’s team for winning on Wednesday last week, the second time in two weeks.
No jackpot pairs are on this week but will be played on Wednesday, December 4 with a starting time of 10am as we have moved into summer season.

Runners-up were Maurie Ochard (s) and Isobel Wade.
Winners for Friday, November 22 were Bob Pascoe (s), Bev Williamson, Pat Squire and Joan Hales.
Runners-up were Elaine Murphy (s), Miriam Pascoe, John Fatone and Lyn Prott.
60 and Over
The Campaspe Valley and District 60 and over Bowls group held their weekly bowls at the Tongala Bowls Club last week.
A total of 28 teams, consisting of 112 bowlers competed for a chook.
Four teams won three games, they then rolled off to within the yard stick.
The winning team was from Rich River which included Ron Luke, John Langley, Paul Wallace and George Clarence. The team from Tongala which came second included Ivan Tinning, Kelvin Walsh, “Chooka” Keith Tinning and Barry Campbell.
Members of both teams received a chook each.
Next Wednesday, 60 and over is at Rich River with a 10am start.
